The practical answer: late spring through early fall
Most Massachusetts exterior painting is scheduled from late spring into early fall, but a calendar date does not guarantee paint-ready conditions. Product limits, surface temperature, rain, humidity, overnight lows and dew all matter.
Some modern exterior coatings allow application at lower temperatures, but the product label controls. Benjamin Moore notes that certain exterior products can be applied at surface temperatures as low as 35°F, while other products have different limits. A contractor should select the coating first and schedule within its published conditions.
Why the morning can be too early
A dry forecast does not mean siding is dry at sunrise. Overnight dew can leave shaded elevations damp after the air begins warming. Painting over moisture can interfere with adhesion and drying.
The crew should inspect the surface rather than rely only on the weather app. Shade, tree cover, coastal exposure and the direction of each wall create different drying times on the same house.
Rain, humidity and recoat windows
Rain affects more than the hour it falls. The wall must dry before coating, and the finish needs enough time to resist moisture afterward. High humidity and cool temperatures can extend dry and recoat times.
A realistic exterior schedule includes weather days. That is preferable to forcing production when the coating cannot perform as designed.
